Our first landing in South Georgia after two rolling days and nights at sea was Undine Harbor. This would be our only opportunity to photograph nesting gray headed albatross. To reach the nesting area we hiked up a rocky creek bed, across soggy tussock and up to the edge of a cliff a couple hundred feet above the rocky beach of Elsehul. Gray headed and light mantled sooty albatross circled and landed on their nests right in front of us. It was a misty, drizzly day with very soft diffuse light. Back on the beach we found elephant seals and a few gentoo and king penguins.
